SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Indonesia’s demand for lubricants is expected to grow to 1.32bn litres/year in 2026, up by about 15% from 2021 levels, an executive at state-owned energy company Pertamina said on Thursday.

Mineral fuels will continue to account for a sizeable share of the total demand, with the automotive and industrial sectors as among the biggest end-markets, Werry Prayogi, president director at Pertamina Lubricants, said at the 15th ICIS Asian Base Oils and Lubricants Conference.

Prayogi said that the semi-synthetic and synthetic-based lubricants demand will grow to account for 25% of the total demand pie, while the share of mineral-based material will decline but still remain huge.

Pertamina has a 35% share of finished lubricants market in Indonesia , the biggest economy in southeast Asia.

The conference runs from 16-17 March.
