A Broome County man is continuing to rack up a long and varied list of felony convictions.

The Binghamton man with a previous conviction for assault in 2003 in Delaware County and who had been arrested in 2020 for allegedly buying an iPhone advertised on Facebook with fake $100 bills, is to be sentenced in February for yet another felony.

The Broome County District Attorney’s office says, just before a jury was to be seated in the case November 28, 42-year-old David Coffey pleaded guilty to felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree for having an illegal, loaded .40-caliber pistol in the City of Binghamton on May 25, 2021.

Members of the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, executing a search warrant, found the gun and small amounts of methamphetamine at Coffey’s home on Clifford Street.

The news release from Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak's office notes Coffey had been convicted of Assault in the Second Degree in Delaware County in 2003.

A search of WNBF News archives finds Coffey was also arrested two years ago in a counterfeit scheme along with another Binghamton residents for the purchase of an iPhone online with money that even had the word "replica" printed on it.

In that case, Coffey and Abigail Klink were charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument as well as Petit Larceny and Conspiracy for allegedly trying to cheat a Town of Chenango resident.

In the latest plea, the D.A.'s office says Coffee will be sentenced to seven years in New York State prison plus five years post-release supervision on February 28, 2023.
